Learn capital X and lowercase x in cursive. Both use two strokes that cross, so the first stroke is written with the word and the crossing stroke is added after.
These steps follow the traditional school letters shown above. Other handwriting systems may form X differently, so stay consistent with the style you are learning.
Capital X in cursive
Start at the top left with a small hook and pull a curved stroke down to the right.
Finish that stroke with a short exit curve on the baseline.
Lift the pen and draw a straight diagonal from the top right to the lower left.
Lowercase x in cursive
Start at the baseline and round over a small shoulder at the midline.
Slant down to the baseline and curve up into the exit stroke.
Finish the word first, then come back and add the crossing diagonal.
Common mistakes with cursive X
Writing a printed x in one motion, which leaves no stroke to join the next letter.
Crossing too high or too low; the two strokes should meet near the center.
Forgetting the crossing stroke after finishing the word.
