How to write O in cursive

These steps follow the traditional school letters shown above. Other handwriting systems may form O differently, so stay consistent with the style you are learning.

Capital O in cursive

  1. Start at the top and curve left and down into a large oval.
  2. Come around along the baseline and up the right side to close at the top.
  3. Cross the top of the oval with a small loop and flick out to the right.

Lowercase o in cursive

  1. Start at the midline and curve left and down into a small oval.
  2. Close the oval back at the midline.
  3. Add a small tuck at the top; the next letter joins from this high point.

Common mistakes with cursive O

  • Dropping the exit stroke to the baseline; lowercase o leaves from the midline.
  • Pulling the join down, which makes the next letter look too tall or misaligned.
  • Leaving the oval open at the top, which makes o look like a c or a u.
