These steps follow the traditional school letters shown above. Other handwriting systems may form M differently, so stay consistent with the style you are learning.

Start with a small hook at the top left and pull the first stem down to the baseline.
Retrace up and round over into the first arch, then come back down to the baseline.
Round over a second arch and finish with a short exit curve on the baseline.
Lowercase m in cursive
Start at the baseline and round over the first hump at the midline.
Retrace up and make a second hump the same height, then a third.
Curve out of the last downstroke into the exit stroke.
Common mistakes with cursive M
Making only two humps in lowercase m, which turns it into n.
Letting the humps shrink from left to right as the hand speeds up.
Pointing the tops of the capital arches like a printed M instead of rounding them.
